Immigration
To protect our vulnerable communities and maintain safety in the Commonwealth, I am supporting legislation that addresses current changes in immigration enforcement at a federal level.
Recently, I signed on to HD.4886, which would prohibit law enforcement officers—including ICE agents—from wearing any mask or personal disguise while interacting with the public and require visible display of name or badge number.
In the spring, we passed the 2026 budget which included $5 million to implement an immigration legal services program for the Commonwealth.

In addition, I am working to provide immigrants and refugees without access to representation legal services by co-sponsoring H.1954, a bill that creates a Legal Defense Fund dedicated to providing counsel to those at risk of being deported.
It is important to me that Massachusetts is a safe space for all its community members and we protect residents’ civil rights. H.2580 is a bill that ensures no law enforcement agent may question a person on their immigration status while acting under the guise of authority and establishes due process protections. Additionally, I am supporting H.1588, a bill which prohibits state law enforcement agencies from making detention agreements with the federal government.
